“Identity is key here. In general, to win exemption from the left-wing critique of America, the affluent must construct cool identities as far distant as possible from the white Christian heterosexual male, who is most culpable for creating our present affluence from ill-gotten gains.”
Cool exemption for those drinking the Kool Aid.
“But the promise of his campaign four years ago has given way to something else — a failure to connect with tens of millions of Americans, many of them women, who feel economic opportunity is gone and are losing hope. In an effort to win them back, Mr. Obama is trying too hard. He’s employing a tone that can come across as grating and even condescending.”
A familiar pattern.
“During the exchange, the teacher an obvious Obama supporter got very angry with the student and accused him of disrespecting the president. She even went so far as to tell the boy that he could be jailed for speaking ill of Obama.”
When is the last time you heard of a conservative teacher doing this? At least these kids know the facts and are speaking up.
“The bottom line is this: Obama has been creating and shifting identities his entire adult life. If the agency brochure was a snapshot of the 1991 Obama, Dreams captured him in his 1995 pose: hip, black, progressive, wounded by racial slights but able to overcome them, just the man to lead Chicago into the 21st century, then the extent of his and Ayers’s ambition for him.”
Our composite President.
“If Obama didn’t write that, for whatever reason, who did? Why did that person think Obama was born in Kenya? In what possible sense is botching a client’s birthplace by 10,000 miles a “fact-checking error”? And why did Obama let it slide for 16 years, until he decided to run for president?”
Why is the left so uncurious about all this?
“The biography does, however, fit a pattern in which Obama–or the people representing and supporting him–manipulate his public persona.”
No wonder the controversy never goes away.
“What the authorities and the media seem determined to suppress is that the hoodlum elements in many ghettoes launch coordinated attacks on whites in public places. If there is anything worse than a one-sided race war, it is a two-sided race war, especially when one of the races outnumbers the other several times over.”
I was wondering when someone was going to talk about the numerous unprovoked racial attakcs in recent month (i.e. blacks against white). No mention by the national media or your typical race hustlers.
There is little doubt that the geniuses in the Obama re-election campaign are hoping that this tactic will reach the same level of distraction that the so-called “war on women” achieved while enabling them to pull in millions of dollars from the gay and Hollywood crowd whose only interest is their unfettered lifestyle.
“However, this is not a matter of who pays for contraceptives; it strikes to the very heart of society. Virtually every time the issue has been brought up to a popular vote the gay marriage propositions have been defeated — in 32 states.”
Let’s talk about ANYTHING other than the real issues.
“Most Americans thought they were fighting for the country, not on Barack Obama’s behalf. Slip of the tongue, to be sure, but can one think of another president who’d have made it? They are fighting under his command, under his orders, to be sure, but this particular locution is offensive and solipsistic. Mr. Obama has switched his position on the sanctity of marriage back and forth and has a new one, again, today, revealed when politics made that advisable to him and to his campaign. Whether this is the end or he will “evolve” some more is anyone’s guess.”
“Federal authorities said Wednesday that they plan to sue Arizona sheriff Joe Arpaio and his office over allegations of civil rights violations, including the racial profiling of Latinos.”
Sheriff Arpaio can respond when Eric Holder responds to his subpoena over fast and furious.
“The president will take credit for all the successes on his watch, without ever acknowledging reliance on the policies put in place during the eight years before he took office, much less admitting that he once did his best to undermine all of those inheritances that he eventually found so useful. And in matters concerning his predecessor, Obama will damn Bush for the bad economy that he left to his successor and yet ignore Bush for the successful anti-terrorism protocols that he passed on.”
Time magazine also managed to delete the reference that it would be bad for “him” and not the American people. A leader always takes responsibility. Neither of these two do.
“The United States has relied upon its Constitution for coherence; that’s failing. The president claims the power to kill whom he wishes, seizes private businesses, and starts wars when he likes, all extra-constitutional acts. Congress allows that and has authorized military seizure and indefinite imprisonment of citizens without due process[i]; the Constitution is now treated as a dead letter by both president and Congress. Add that a constitution is moot without the rule of law, which requires stability in the language. In American society today, words have made prophets of Lewis Carroll and George Orwell by losing their historically more stable meanings and becoming politically adjustable tools, poisoning the very foundation of a rule of law. Western societies resemble cracking glass.”
When reverence for the Constitution fails, so do a lot of other things.
“The overwhelming majority of Americans do not understand that Obama’s first term was dedicated to putting in place executive power to enable him and the administration to fulfill the campaign promise of “transforming America” in his second term regardless of which political party controls Congress. That is why his re-election team is virtually ignoring the plight of incumbent or prospective Democratic Party office holders.
For the clueless.
“But has Obama — and his chief strategist and image-maker, David Axelrod — deliberately tapped a communist slogan, or was this mere accident?
Moreover, Obama and Axelrod are geniuses at coming up with words and phrases that seem vague and benign to the larger population — especially to the ignorant independents/moderates who elected Obama in 2008 — but which resonate with a hard left that understands the deeper meaning completely. That was certainly true for the “change” slogan. Those of us savvy to this stuff know the underlying message in “change.” We interpret it the way that progressives and Fabian socialists and, yes, communists, understand it.”
The evidence keeps adding up.
“François Hollande, the Socialist candidate who leads the presidential race after the first round of voting last week, wants to impose a tax rate of 75 per cent on income above €1m and at the launch of his bid in January….”
Seventy five percent?????
